Exploring Colombia (Medellin & Guatape)

Planning a trip to Colombia? Here's my guide.

I visited Medellin and Guatape. I started my trip in the small town of Guatape (2 days) and made my way to the city of Medellin (3 days).

Guatapé is a town in Colombia located in Antioquia. It is known for its colorful buildings, lively streets, and the nearby rock formation known as El Peñón de Guatapé, which offers stunning views of the surrounding area when you walk to the top. You may run out of breath, but it's great cardio and the view is 100% worth the workout!

I stayed at the Tau House, which was a beautiful hotel with an overview of the beautiful lake. They provide amenities such as kayaking, gym, yoga etc. The food was GREAT and the hospitality was a 10/10. I would stay again.

TIPS for Guatape

When flying to Colombia you have to fill out a MIG form or at least I did for July 2023. The MIG form is FREE, please do not pay a third party to fill this out for you.
If you have a lack of time, you can truly enjoy Guatape in 1 full day, but I recommend two days. Or like 1 full day and then a half a day and then head to Medellin.
Tuktuks are the cheapest means of transportation for Guatape

Medellin

Medellin is a vibrant city located in the northwestern region of Colombia. During my time there the weather was beautiful, the people were friendly, and there was a rich culture. I used Uber to get around for the most part and the Uber drivers gave me a lot of tips on things to do which changed my itinerary around a lot, but was also the the best decision I made. Listen to the locals!! From my experience, I felt very safe while in Medellin; however, always take precautions.
