The moment I stepped onto the streets of Mexico City, I could feel the energy. It’s a city that feels alive in every direction. I stayed near Condesa, a neighborhood full of tree lined streets and colorful buildings. I had such a great time exploring and soaking in its charm and beauty. Mexico City is incredibly walkable, and the best way to experience it is by getting on your feet and exploring. That’s how I discovered so many hidden gems, all of which I’ll be sharing throughout this blog.
Side note: One thing I quickly learned is that knowing some Spanish makes a big difference. While some people speak English, it isn’t their first language, so communication can still feel like a dance of words, gestures, and smiles. The translator app will be your biggest friend if you do not speak Spanish fluently.
TIPS
Convert cash at local bank
Learn/Brush up on your Spanish
Uber is relatively cheap
Sunscreen
Be mindful of tap water (stomach bug)
Where to stay
Airbnb - I stayed at this Airbnb near Condesa, and it truly made the trip even better. One thing I quickly learned while researching places to stay is that many Airbnbs/Hotels in Mexico City don’t come with AC or heat. While you may not need it, this one has both, making it super comfortable no matter the time of day.
Another common complaint I saw in reviews across the city was noise, but this spot was tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, which made it perfect for resting after long days of exploring. The building is called The Sterling, and it’s a newer property with modern finishes and everything you could need for a comfortable stay.
Highly recommended.
